Your day begins as we head out of the city north of Auckland, crossing the spectacular Harbour Bridge. We explore iconic NZ village Matakana for boutique shopping, art galleries & cafes. On Saturdays, you will also visit the Farmers Market - sample fresh produce, artisan cheeses, olive oil, oysters and of course the market's own coffee from the stallholders directly. This is a good opportunity to purchase delicious local food for grazing on throughout the day to keep you sustained until your late lunch of amazing fresh fish, well worth waiting for.
You will then head off to two boutique Matakana vineyards for wine tastings. At Sculptureum there is then the opportunity to view a truly mind-blowing art collection which is suitable for all ages and abilities. Even if you are not a major art lover, this really is a must-do and there is nothing else like it in New Zealand.
Then you will enjoy a late lunch of locally caught fresh fish and chips from local fishing village Leigh. We take this down to eat on the beach at Goat Island Marine Reserve. Enjoy a walk on the beach or an optional relaxed Clearyak to view New Zealand marine life in their native environment.
Optional stop-offs on the way back can include the Sawmill Brewery for a tasting platter of boutique beers made on-site, local gelato, local chocolate or manuka honey tasting at The Honey Centre.
On your tour of the Matakana region, enjoy scenery such as beautiful countryside dipping down to the ocean, stunning beaches and local fishing villages.
